Spring Fling to Benefit the Annapolis Police Scholarship Fund
Spring Fling 2019 will be held Wednesday, March 20, at Annapolis Market House on City Dock. Some of Annapolis’ finest eateries including Caliente Grill, Mission BBQ, Lemongrass and Market House will provide complimentary bites. A Silent Auction will feature fun and uniquely “Annapolis experiences” including a much sought after Tailgate Package for the 2019 Annapolis Cup Croquet Match (Tailgate Spot & 10 Tickets). This is the 36th annual meeting of St John’s College and the United States Naval Academy on the great lawn of the college, the event sold out in minutes earlier this week. There will also be live music at the Spring Fling, provided by Annapolis singer/guitarist, Ryan Kozel.
The scholarship program is funded entirely through donations. Traditionally, two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who reside in the City of Annapolis. This year a total of seven scholarships will be awarded through the Annapolis Police Scholarship Fund. The $5,000 funding the additional scholarships was graciously donated anonymously, to be awarded in honor of the victims of the Capital Gazette shooting: Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith, and Wendi Winters. It is a wonderful tribute to these Annapolis heroes.
Lt. Kevin Krauss, of the Annapolis Police Department’s Community Services Unit, is spearheading the scholarship fund and the fundraiser. “We hope to grow the Scholarship Fund so that each recipient will receive $1000 for all four years of college,” said Lt. Krauss. Lt. Krauss works closely with Annapolis youth through numerous community programs.
Tickets for the Spring Fling are $45. The celebration is from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. A limited number of VIP tickets will be available for $75. The VIP reception begins at 6 p.m. with a meet & greet with Annapolis Mayor, Gavin Buckley. Tickets are on sale now at eventbrite.
The Annapolis Police Department launched the Annapolis Police Scholarship Program in 2017, in recognition of the Department’s 150th Anniversary.
