August 1 - Coffee with a Cop - 122 Main St (Starbucks)


 
In the last 72 hours Annapolis Police officers responded to 341 calls for service and arrested 16 people.   
 
Shooting – 201800003063 – 800-899 Betsy Ct – 07/28 at 12:50am: Officers responded to the area of Betsy Ct at Newtowne Dr for a report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male shooting victim outside in the 800 block of Betsy Ct. The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment of critical injuries. Detectives are investigating this incident. The shooting is believed to have occurred outside in the 800 block of Betsy Ct. We urge anyone with information to contact our detectives at 410-260-3439. You can also call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP and submit an anonymous tip. If your tip leads to an arrest or indictment you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.
 
Armed Robbery – 201800003064 – 500-599 South Cherry Grove Av – 07/28 at 1:05am: Three adult victims were sitting inside a parked vehicle when they were approached by a male suspect who knocked on the window. After one of the victims lowered the vehicle window the suspect pointed a handgun at the occupants and ordered them out of the vehicle. A second male suspect arrived and pointed a gun at the victims while the first suspect demanded money and took their wallets. Then the suspects fled the area on foot. Detectives were able to identify the suspect who first approached the vehicle as Jariq Downs, 16, of Annapolis and obtained an arrest warrant for him. On 07/28 at 9:20pm Downs was located in the 1100 block of Madison St and arrested. Downs was charged as an adult with seventeen criminal counts relating to the armed robbery. Downs is being held without bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. Detectives continue to investigate this robbery, if you have any information please contact them at 410-260-3439.
 
Shots Fired – 201800003065 – 00-99 Alder Rd – 07/28 at 2:15am: Officers responded to the area for reports of shots fired and discovered the front door to a home had been struck. No one was injured and no suspects were located.
 
Theft from Boat – 201800003069 – 300-399 Third St – 07/28 at 12:30am: A man saw an adult male suspect rummaging through a boat docked in the water. The suspect stole an orange case and yellow emergency box from the boat and left the area. The theft wasn’t reported to the police until 9:25am.
 
Burglary – 201800003091 – 100-199 Bloomsbury Sq – 07/29 at 5:51pm: An observant caller reported seeing several juvenile male suspects exit the front door of the closed community center. They gained entry into the building through an unlocked rear window. Nothing was stolen from the building.


 
Coffee with a Cop
Join us for the next Coffee with a Cop, Wednesday, August 1 from 9am to 11am at Starbucks located at 122 Main Street. Drop in anytime during the two hours officers will be at Starbucks.  The officers are there to say hi and answer questions.


 
No Citizen Fingerprinting in August
There will be no citizen fingerprinting offered in August or Monday, 09/03. Citizen fingerprinting will resume Monday, 09/10, at 6:30pm.

Submitting Anonymous Tips to Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland


Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland is an organization separate from the Annapolis Police Department. When you phone in or submit your Annapolis crime tip online or through the P3 Tips smartphone app Metro Crime Stoppers receives your tip anonymously and only forwards your tip information to the Annapolis Police Department. No identifying information is ever forwarded to us. Metro Crime Stoppers uses a special coding system to protect your identity, they do not use Caller ID or record telephone conversations. If your tip leads to the arrest or indictment of a person for a felony you could qualify for up to a $2,000 cash reward from Metro Crime Stoppers. You can submit a tip by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587), visiting www.metrocrimestoppers.org, or through the P3 Tips smartphone app. The app can be found in the Apple or Android app stores by searching for P3 Tips.

Watch Your Car Program:  The Watch Your Car Program helps prevent vehicle theft.  A small sticker will be placed on your rear window.  This sticker alerts officers nationwide that your vehicle is not normally driven during the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.  The vehicle may be stopped to verify ownership.  For more information about the program contact us at police@annapolis.gov.
