In the last 24 hours Annapolis Police officers responded to 86 calls for service and arrested 3 people.

Good News – On 04/06 Daquan Hicks, 18, of Annapolis was arrested for the armed robbery that occurred on 04/01 in the 700 block of Newtowne Dr. On 04/01 at 5:30am two adult female victims reported that a man visiting the home displayed a handgun, pointed it at them, and demanded money. While the women knew the man, they did not know his real name. Through investigation officers identified the suspect as Daquan Hicks and obtained an arrest warrant for him. On 04/06 a search warrant was executed for a home in the 800 block of Brooke Ct and Hicks was found there and arrested. Also found was a handgun with an obliterated serial number. Hicks was charged with 16 criminal counts related to the armed robbery on 04/01 and four criminal counts related to the handgun found during the search warrant. Hicks is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.

There are no preventable Part One offenses to report this morning. Part One offenses are those incidents we report to the MD State Police and the F.B.I. These incidents include homicides, robberies, burglaries, rapes, serious assaults, and thefts.

Fundraiser for Injured Officer

Join us on Monday, April 10th from 6pm to 10pm at Heroes Pub in Annapolis and show your support for Officer First Class Michael Macri and his family. We will be raising money for the nine year Annapolis Police Department veteran who was injured in the line of duty on October 5, 2016. He was responding to an emergency call for service and was involved in a motor vehicle accident. He sustained severe injuries from which he is still recovering, and he is in need of your support during this long road to recovery.

Heroes Pub is sponsoring this fundraiser to raise money for our injured officer and his family. If you cannot make it between the hours of 6pm and 10pm the owners of Heroes will generously donate 20% every tab throughout the day to support this family. Neighborhood Safety Meeting

The next Neighborhood Safety Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, April 12 from6:30pm to 8pm at Annapolis Police Headquarters located at 199 Taylor Av. This meeting is open to anyone who wishes to attend. We will be talking about our new neighborhood watch initiative called Annapolis Community Builders and cover current crime trends in the city. Public Safety Expo

Join us for the Annapolis Police Department Public Safety Expo on Saturday, April 22 from 1pm to 4pm at Weems-Whalen Athletic Fields at 935 Spa Rd. This event is open and free to the community. There will be demonstrations and displays from law enforcement agencies across the area including the Metropolitan Police Department and Prince Georges County Police Department. Also joining Annapolis PD are the Maryland State Police, Maryland Capitol Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police, Anne Arundel County Sheriffs, Prince Georges County Sheriffs, Kent County Sheriffs, Bowie Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and the U.S. Army. This event is part of our planned events to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Annapolis Police Department with the community. Food and drinks will be available for purchase at the event.

No identifying information is ever forwarded to us. Please be assured that only your tip is communicated from Metro Crime Stoppers to the police department, not any identifying information about you. Metro Crime Stoppers uses a special coding system to protect your identity, they do not use Caller ID or record telephone conversations. If your tip leads to the arrest or indictment of a person for a felony you could qualify for up to a $2,000 cash reward from Metro Crime Stoppers. Watch Your Car Program: The Watch Your Car Program helps prevent vehicle theft. A small sticker will be placed on your rear window. This sticker alerts officers nationwide that your vehicle is not normally driven during the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. The vehicle may be stopped to verify ownership.
