Adult Easter Egg Hunt at Night – Saturday, April 1, 8-10 pm, PMRC parking lot

We are back with one of your favorite annual events! Hundreds of eggs are filled with prizes, hidden outside and then wait to be found by YOU. Some eggs are worth $50 or more! Bring a basket and a flashlight. Meet in the "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center parking lot by Ballfield 1. Age 18+ only (sorry, no children.) Rain Date is Sunday, April 2nd (same time and place). Cost is $20 per person; tickets are non-refundable. Proceeds benefit the Annapolis Recreation and Parks Scholarship Fund. For this event, you must register at PMRC in person in order to receive your ticket(s). Purchase by 6 pm the night of for $20; after that, the price is $25! Please note that the ballfields will close at 6 pm on the night of the egg hunt.

Two more Maryland Safe Boating Courses offered this spring! for Adults & Youth Age 12+

A great parent-child opportunity to learn the “rules of the road” on the water together! Prepare for summer by taking this course that covers legal requirements, navigation rules, preparation and trailers, accidents, weather and water conditions, water sports, sailing and personal watercraft safety, This is an eight hour course and test satisfies Maryland law to operate any motorized boat in Maryland waters. NEW Men’s Basketball League  Age 17+

A new offering for spring! This NCAA-sanctioned league is fast-paced, high-quality recreational basketball - a great opportunity for the men’s teams to mesh before the start of the Men’s Summer Basketball League. Games are held indoors at PMRC every Friday night for 8 weeks of play, including play-offs. Must provide your own jerseys. Team registration only; referee fees not included with registration. PMRC Court 1 & 3 (spectator section Court 2).

Fencing starts tomorrow! Age 7-18

Try something new this spring or continue your form with fencing! Participants learn the basics of fencing including rules, fundamentals and footwork which helps improve skills for other sports. Equipment is provided except for required gloves that can be purchased from the instructor during the first class. Annapolis Baseball League Age 3-12

Annapolis Recreation and Parks is bringing back ABL this spring - plan to get back out on the diamond to play some ball! This recreational and comprehensive program is for local kids to learn and develop baseball skills. Some jerseys & equipment are available and umpires are covered with the fee. Team registration only. Teams consist of Annapolis and Greater Annapolis elementary and middle schoolers to unite diverse communities by bringing all neighborhoods together. Any private rec team is invited to play! All practices and games are held on Truxtun Park ballfields every Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday starting March 21.

SUMMER CAMPS

Registration is underway for all camps held this summer between June 19 and August 25. All camps are listed on pages 8 and 9 of the Spring 2023 Program Guide. Please go to the Camp Forms page to fill out what’s applicable for the camps you would like to register for.

Generally speaking, the different camps break down as follows:

• Summer Kick Off (age 6-12) held June 19-23
• Camp Annapolis held June 26-August 18 for two-weeks sessions
  • Sprouts (age 4-6)
  • Explorers (age 7-9)
  • Pioneers (age 10-12)
• Community Enrichment held June 26-August 18 for eight weeks

Scholarship Program  for all City Residents (youth and adults)

The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) maintains a Scholarship Fund for youth and adults who are City of Annapolis residents who do not have the financial means to participate in fee-based ARPD recreational programs, memberships and pool passes as long as applicable and approved. (Scholarship funds cannot be used for facility rentals, before/after school child care and “co-sponsored” programs.) Scholarships are awarded by means of account credit, and may or may not cover the entire cost of the program(s). Details about the ARPD Scholarship Program and how to apply can be found online.

"Pip" Moyer Recreation Center

Not sure about a membership? Try out a fitness class before you sign up!

Non-members can attend any fitness class by paying $15 or $19 for each class (cost depends on your residency, City of Annapolis vs. Non-City Resident.) With more than three dozen fitness classes offered weekly included as part of the membership, this is the best deal in town!

Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) hosting GED and ABS classes at PMRC for FREE!

Improve your English Skills! These classes are for students who are just beginning to study English. Classes address listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students develop English language skills for everyday life and work.

Classes are Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. These classes are offered at no cost to all eligible students. Contact esloffice@aacc.edu or call AACC at 410-777-2901 to get started.

Earn your Maryland High School diploma by taking a class to prepare for the GED test! This free class is for students 18 or older who do not have a high school diploma and need to prepare for the GED® exam. The class includes all four subjects required to pass the GED® test:  math, science, social studies and reasoning through language arts.

Classes are Mondays & Wednesdays, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Interested individuals must attend an orientation prior to registering for this class. Schedule your orientation by calling 410-777-1823 or send an e-mail to gedprogram@aacc.edu. Registrants must complete the AACC's High School Diploma Programs In-Person Assessment. We encourage you visit High School Diploma Programs to learn more about this AACC initiative.

Stanton Community Center

Stanton is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 8 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8 am to 6 pm. (However, there may be pre-scheduled events held during afterhours in which the facility is open.)

Please Note:   the Stanton Center will be closed this Friday, March 24 in observance of the Maryland Day holiday (City of Annapolis holiday) which is this Saturday, March 25.

Turn Up Dance Fitness is now at Stanton Center! Evolve Unapologetically, Live Loudly. Dance Ruthlessly...

This new fitness class is now offered at the Stanton Center! Led by energetic Mackenzie Byrd, this workout is more of a dance party! The choreography is broken down into "Work Shake Flex Slay". Check out the program's website to learn about the fun that has been growing across the country recently.

The class is held Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 to 11 am. This class is FREE, so an even better reason to check it out! Contact Paulette Carroll at pcarroll@annapolis.gov.

DAFINA “Young Ladies Destined for Greatness”  Age 11-15 (girls)

DAFINA is Swahili for valuable or precious. DAFINA enriches young ladies holistically by focusing on their mind, body and spirit. This program helps young women realize their potential by teaching them decision making skills, health education, relationship building, study skills, test taking skills, personal appearance, and etiquette. The importance of education and various other topics that pertain to their development and overall well-being is also covered. DAFINA participants experience workshops, enrichment activities and field trips.

Friday Night Out  Age 5-17

Fun, friends, field trips – these are Friday nights that the kids look forward to! A Friday Night Out trip may be educational, amusement, athletics/sports, cultural and/or social. This program exposes children to various experiences that they may otherwise not experience. Positive social skills, such as interpersonal and communication skills, are emphasized. Permission slips required; some extra fees apply. Program is led by Lassie Belt and Paulette Carroll.

Get Smart Club

This volunteer-based program is in partnership with St. Anne’s Episcopal Church of Annapolis. The Get Smart Club helps to strengthen the academic skills of elementary, middle and high school students. All students receive homework assistance and school project assistance. Low-performing students receive tutoring in math and reading and they also have access to 12 online computers. The program ends with a Get Smart Club Banquet to recognize students for their in-school honor roll and perfect attendance accomplishments and for their after school Homework Club accomplishments. Additionally, the Smart Board and the IXL mathematical interactive website are used to give students practice sessions in language arts and math.

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Grades K-5

The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland want every interested girl to participate in and benefit from Girl Scouts – activities designed to empower girls! Girls who are similar in age meet at the Stanton Community Center to work on badges, plan activities, develop community service projects and have fun with each other. Enroll your future leader now! • Woodworking The woodworking “shop” class introduces teens to the art of woodcraft! Students learn about the safe use of hand tools and woodworking machinery. Participants expand their knowledge and experience by educational lessons, learning woodworking vocabulary and creating various types of projects.
• Art Painting, drawing, crafting and more! Use your imagination to create unique artwork among friends.
• Cooking Learn how to plan and prepare small, healthy meals. Plus, how to bake sweet treats such as cookies and cupcakes!

Youth Open Gym This drop-in program gives elementary and middle school students the opportunity to play recreational basketball, tabletop games and enjoy arts and crafts.

Adult Open Gym This drop-in program provides adults and high school students an opportunity to play recreational basketball in their leisure time. Attendees must sign in.

• Counseling Services Call 410.626.1800. Individual, group and family counseling daily from 10 am to 6 pm. After 6 pm, by appointment only. Provides services for crisis intervention, tutoring, substance abuse and mental health assessment for youth and adults. Offered through a partnership of Arundel Lodge and the Community Action Agency.
• We Care and Friends Call 410.263.2874. Offering services for homeless and others who need additional assistance, help children who are at risk, and those who have a substance abuse problem. Monday - Friday, 10 am - 2 pm.

Art in Public Places Commission

What is the Art in Public Places Commission (AiPPC)?

The AiPPC consists of nine City of Annapolis residents, one from each ward and one appointed at large, that serve for three years (one term.) Members are appointed by Mayor and confirmed by Aldermen (City Council.)

The Director of Recreation and Parks, or his/her designee, is an ex officio, nonvoting member of the commission. The Mayor may designate additional City officials or individuals to participate in an ex officio, nonvoting capacity.

AiPPC adopts guidelines and procedures which identify suitable art objects for city property, and facilitate the preservation of art objects and artifacts that may be displayed in public places. The group prescribes a method for the competitive selection, acquisition and display of art, and for the presentation of performing arts, in public places. They establish other matters appropriate to the administration of the placement of art or the promotion of the performing arts in public places.

Recreation Advisory Board

What is the Recreation Advisory Board (RAB)?

The RAB acts in an advisory capacity to the Department and makes recommendations concerning the Department's budget, activities, programs, facilities and public relations.

The RAB consists 11 residents of the City who have a demonstrated interest in the activities and programs of the Department of Recreation and Parks. Members are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by a majority vote of the City Council for a term of three years. The Director of Recreation and Parks and the Director of Planning and Zoning serve as ex-officio, non-voting members of the RAB.
