Starting this month, Anne Arundel Community College will host GED and ABS classes at the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center (PRMC) for FREE! Learn more in the PMRC section below.

Your input is wanted! Come out Saturday morning January 21 to learn about the City of Annapolis Public Water Access Plan and the Robert H. Eades Park on College Creek! Information session will be held at the First Baptist Church at 31 West Washington Street from 10 am to 12:30 pm. For questions, please contact Archie Trader.

Basketball Clinics Age 5-7 – starts THIS Saturday!
Be part of your child’s basketball experience! Coach Barry Booth and company lead this clinic for both girls and boys. Through fun and exciting drills and skills games, your child is introduced (or re-introduced!) to the game of basketball. Clinics are held during the Annapolis Youth Basketball League games so they can observe and prepare for competitive play! T-shirt included.
Held for 8 weeks on PMRC Court 3 and Aux Gym

Annapolis United continues to empower local youth through fields trips to sports events and after-school enrichment programming! In the past few months, participants attended a Bowie State University football game, a Navy football game, a Capital City Go-Go basketball game, a Navy boxing match, a Navy basketball game and they demonstrated their creative talents through artwork in the Kolor Me Awesome program held at PMRC.
Scholarship Program  for all City Residents (youth and adults)
The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) maintains a Scholarship Fund for youth and adults who are City of Annapolis residents who do not have the financial means to participate in fee-based ARPD recreational programs, memberships and pool passes as long as applicable and approved. (Scholarship funds cannot be used for facility rentals, before/after school child care and “co-sponsored” programs.) Scholarships are awarded by means of account credit, and may or may not cover the entire cost of the program(s). Details about the ARPD Scholarship Program and how to apply can be found online.

Rock Wall hours for January and February are Saturdays and Sundays from 10 am to 6 pm and led by instructor Shane Fleming.

Fitness Classes – Please review the schedule for current offerings! This schedule is often changed in real time so please double check before coming to PMRC. Last minute cancellations are posted on social media so please follow our pages if you don’t do so already!
 
Not sure about a membership? Why not try out a class before you commit! Non-members can attend any fitness class by paying $15 or $19 for each class – the cost just depends on your residency (City of Annapolis vs. Non-City Resident.) Membership questions or concerns can be addressed to Melissa Brown at mnbrown@annapolis.gov.

  • Before registering for classes, participants must attend an orientation January 10 or 20 at PMRC.
  • Additionally, registrants must complete the AACC's High School Diploma Programs In-Person Assessment.

NEW Anne Arundel Community College (AACC) hosting GED and ABS classes at PMRC for FREE – orientation sessions in January, classes start in February!
  • Improve your English Skills! Free English Basic Skills classes for adults start this month. These classes are for students who are just beginning to study English. Classes address listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Students develop English language skills for everyday life and work. The first class is Monday, January 23; classes will be Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. These classes are offered at no cost to all eligible students. Contact esloffice@aacc.edu or call AACC at 410-777-2901 to get started.
  • Earn your Maryland High School diploma by taking a class to prepare for the GED test! This free class is for students 18 or older who do not have a high school diploma and need to prepare for the GED® exam. The class includes all four subjects required to pass the GED® test:  math, science, social studies and reasoning through language arts. The first class is Wednesday, February 1; classes will be Mondays & Wednesdays, 6 to 8:30 p.m. Interested individuals must attend an orientation prior to registering for this class. Schedule your orientation by calling 410-777-1823 or send an e-mail to gedprogram@aacc.edu.

teen development skills woodworking class fall 2022
As a part of the Teen Development Skills program, participants learn the art of woodworking!

DAFINA “Young Ladies Destined for Greatness” Age 11-15 (girls)
DAFINA is Swahili for valuable or precious. DAFINA enriches young ladies holistically by focusing on their mind, body and spirit. This program helps young women realize their potential by teaching them decision making skills, health education, relationship building, study skills, test taking skills, personal appearance, and etiquette. The importance of education and various other topics that pertain to their development and overall well-being is also covered. DAFINA participants experience workshops, enrichment activities and field trips.

Friday Night Out Age 5-17
Fun, friends, field trips – these are Friday nights that the kids look forward to! A Friday Night Out trip may be educational, amusement, athletics/sports, cultural and/or social. This program exposes children to various experiences that they may otherwise not experience. Positive social skills, such as interpersonal and communication skills, are emphasized. Permission slips required; some extra fees apply. Program is led by Lassie Belt and Paulette Carroll.

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Grades K-5
The Girl Scouts of Central Maryland want every interested girl to participate in and benefit from Girl Scouts – activities designed to empower girls! Girls who are similar in age meet at the Stanton Community Center to work on badges, plan activities, develop community service projects and have fun with each other. Enroll your future leader now! Teen Development Skills – woodworking, cooking and art! Age 13-15
Program is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 pm. For more information, contact Paulette Carroll at pcarroll@annapolis.gov.
  • Woodworking The woodworking “shop” class introduces teens to the art of woodcraft! Students learn about the safe use of hand tools and woodworking machinery. Participants expand their knowledge and experience by educational lessons, learning woodworking vocabulary and creating various types of projects.
  • Art Painting, drawing, crafting and more! Use your imagination to create unique artwork among friends.
  • Cooking Learn how to plan and prepare small, healthy meals. Plus, how to bake sweet treats such as cookies and cupcakes!

Youth Open Gym
This drop-in program gives elementary and middle school students the opportunity to play recreational basketball, tabletop games and enjoy arts and crafts.
Mon-Thu, 5-6:30 pm
 
Adult Open Gym
This drop-in program provides adults and high school students an opportunity to play recreational basketball in their leisure time. Attendees must sign in.
Mon-Thu, 6:30-8 pm and Sat/Sun, 1-5 pm
 
Computer Lab City residents can access free of charge. Volunteers are needed in the computer lab. If you are interested, please email Chris Beck at cmbeck@annapolis.gov.

Residents and non-profit organizations interested in renting space at SCC should apply 2 weeks before the event date. For details, contact Leanna Braun at lmbraun@annapolis.gov. Please review the rental policies.

  • Anne Arundel Workforce Development Corporation Call 410.349.5013. AAWDC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides innovative, high quality workforce development services to Anne Arundel County businesses and citizens.
  • Counseling Services Call 410.626.1800. Individual, group and family counseling daily from 10 am to 6 pm. After 6 pm, by appointment only. Provides services for crisis intervention, tutoring, substance abuse and mental health assessment for youth and adults. Offered through a partnership of Arundel Lodge and the Community Action Agency.
  • We Care and Friends Call 410.263.2874. Offering services for homeless and others who need additional assistance, help children who are at risk, and those who have a substance abuse problem. Monday - Friday, 10 am - 2 pm.
