Register for the Penguins Swim Team! First practice is next Tuesday, May 31. Cost is City of Annapolis Resident $120 and Non-Resident $140. Please sign up by the deadline (Monday, June 6.) Refer to page 8 in the Spring-Summer 2022 Program Guide for details. Aquatics – we are excited to bring back swim lessons this summer – from toddlers to adults held mornings June, July and August! The pool opens Saturday, May 28th! Please refer to the early season hours just listed on the Aquatics page in the table. Lap swim and aqua aerobics information is on page 7 of the Spring-Summer 2022 Program Guide. Maryland Safe Boating Course Age 12+ – last class is Saturday, June 4! A great parent-child opportunity to learn the “rules of the road” on the water together! Prepare for summer 2022 by taking this course that covers legal requirements, navigation rules, preparation and trailers, accidents, weather and water conditions, water sports, sailing and personal watercraft safety. The Maryland Safe Boating Course is an eight-hour course and test that satisfies Maryland law for local people to operate any motorized boat in Maryland waters. This class is held for one day from 8 am to 5 pm at the “Pip” Moyer Recreation Center. Participants need to bring food and drinks for the 30-minute lunch break. Cost is $25 per participant. You must be pre-registered to attend. This course is for age 12+ but those ages 12-15 must be accompanied by a paying adult. Instructor: Gerry Young. Guided Nature Meditation Event – Thursday, June 9, 5-6:30 pm, Waterworks Park Join us for the first-ever Guided Nature Meditation Event, led by Nature Informed Mental Health and Wellness, at Waterworks Park! Nature Informed Mental Health and Wellness is a 90-minute program that integrates nature connection with mindfulness and other wellness practices. This program includes forest therapy invitations, therapeutic group conversations, information about anxiety and stress reactions, healthy lifestyles and nature’s role in emotional wellness. The event will be led by a team of licensed therapists. Thu Jun 9, 5-6:30 pm (rain date Fri Jun 10). Held at Waterworks Park, 260 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401. Sponsored by Nature Sacred and no cost to participate. However, you must be pre-registered AND space is limited – sign up soon! Parent & Tot Gymnastics Age 12-36 months with parents; please note this class will only go through the end of June (“off” for summer!) Child Care registration – for more information, please contact LaKeisha Simmons at lmsimmons@annapolis.gov: current school year – Childcare for the current academic year (ending in June) is held before and after school at Annapolis, Germantown, Hillsmere, Mills-Parole and West Annapolis elementary schools. AM Care is $117 per month and PM Care is $222 per month. All registration must be done in person at PMRC (sorry, online registration is not available for childcare.) There is a $35 non-refundable registration fee. - 2022-2023 school year – Registration has not opened yet; keep in mind that monthly rates will change for AM and PM care. This is because AACPS is adjusting the start and end times of the school day starting in the fall. Registration information for the 2022-2023 school year will be announced once we know the new/approved rates.
Scholarship Program for all City Residents (youth and adults)The Annapolis Recreation and Parks Department (ARPD) maintains a Scholarship Fund for youth and adults who are City of Annapolis residents who do not have the financial means to participate in fee-based ARPD recreational programs, memberships and pool passes as long as applicable and approved. (Scholarship funds cannot be used for facility rentals, before/after school child care and “co-sponsored” programs.) Scholarships are awarded by means of account credit, and may or may not cover the entire cost of the program(s). Details about the ARPD Scholarship Program and how to apply can be found online.

NEW Cardio Equipment at PMRC – We have eight new MATRIX machines: 2 treadmills, 2 recumbent bikes, 2 stair steppers, 2 stair climbers. If you have any concerns, please contact Fitness Supervisor Jennifer Rafiq at jarafiq@annapolis.gov. Fitness Classes – Please review the schedule for current offerings! Non-members can attend any fitness class by paying $15 or $19 for each class – the cost just depends on your residency (City of Annapolis vs. Non-City Resident.) DAFINA “Young Ladies Destined for Greatness” Age 11-15 DAFINA is Swahili for valuable or precious. DAFINA seeks to enrich young ladies holistically, by focusing on their mind, body, and spirit. The goal is to help young women realize their potential, by teaching them decision making skills, health education, relationship building, study skills, test taking skills, personal appearance, etiquette, the importance of education and various other topics that pertain to their development and overall well being. This is accomplished through workshops, enrichment activities and field trips. Tuesdays, 5-6:30 pm Friday Night Out Age 6-15 Each Friday a field trip is taken; each trip may be educational, amusement, athletics/sports, cultural, and/or social. The objective is to expose children to various experiences that they may otherwise not experience. Positive social skills, such as interpersonal skills, and communication skills are emphasized. Permission slips required. Some extra fees are required. Fridays, 6-8 pm Get Smart Club This volunteer-based program is in partnership with St. Anne’s Episcopal Church of Annapolis. The Get Smart Club helps to strengthen the academic skills of elementary, middle and high school students. All students receive homework assistance and school project assistance. Low-performing students receive tutoring in math and reading and they also have access to 12 online computers. The program ends with a Get Smart Club Banquet to recognize students for their in-school honor roll and perfect attendance accomplishments and for their after school Homework Club accomplishments. Additionally, the Smart Board and the IXL mathematic interactive website are used to give students practice sessions in language arts and math. Mon-Thu, 3-6 pm Girl Scouts of Central Maryland Girl Scouts wants every interested girl to participate in and benefit from Girls Scouts activities designed to empower girls. Girls who are similar in age will meet at the Stanton Community Center to work on badges, plan activities, develop community service projects and have fun with each other. Thursdays, 5:30-6:30 pm Teen Skills Development Age 13-15; Tuesdays, 6-8 pm Art - painting, drawing and more! Cooking - learn to bake cookies and cupcakes and prepare small, healthy meals Woodworking - Introduces kids to the art of woodcraft! Students learn about the safe use of hand tools and woodworking machinery. Participants expand knowledge and experience through educational lessons, woodworking vocabulary and creating various projects.
Youth Open GymDrop-in program gives elementary and middle school students an opportunity to play recreational basketball, table top games and enjoy arts and crafts.Mon-Thu, 5-6:30 pm Adult Open GymDrop-in program is designed to provide adults and high school students an opportunity to play recreational basketball in their leisure time. Attendees must sign in.Mon-Thu, 6:30-8 pm and Sat/Sun, 1-5 pm Computer Lab City residents can access free of charge. Volunteers are needed in the computer lab. The Harbormaster’s Office provides hourly and overnight docking and is responsible for: • Boating enforcement on City waterways • Pump out boat service • Removal of debris and derelict vessels in City waters The City fills to capacity most every weekend so boaters should strongly consider reservations for overnight docking. Reservations are accepted online at www.annapolis.gov/harbormaster. Hourly docking is available on a limited basis so please contact us when you’re close to see if there is availability.
