21-34278 - 700 block of Severn Ave - Identity Theft

On 12-7-21 at approximately 1:08pm, officers responded to the 700 block of Severn Avenue for a reported identity theft. The reporting person said that she was contacted by the Maryland Department of Labor in reference to benefits that had been paid out. According to the victim, someone was able to obtain $11,500 in monetary funds using her personal information. The victim said that she has never filed for unemployment benefits.

21-34279 - Unit block of Lee St - Fraud

On 12-7-21 at approximately 1:36pm, officers responded to a business located in the unit lock of Lee Street for a reported fraud. The owner of the business advised that while reviewing the business banking account she noticed the balance was not correct. After contacting the financial institution that the business uses she was informed that checks were written using her signature. Total loss value to the business was $24,027.

When you phone in or submit your Annapolis crime tip online or through the P3 Tips smartphone app Metro Crime Stoppers receives your tip anonymously and only forwards your tip information to the Annapolis Police Department. No identifying information is ever forwarded to us. Metro Crime Stoppers uses a special coding system to protect your identity, they do not use Caller ID or record telephone conversations. If your tip leads to the arrest or indictment of a person for a felony you could qualify for up to a $2,000 cash reward from Metro Crime Stoppers. You can submit a tip by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587), visiting www.metrocrimestoppers.org, or through the P3 Tips smartphone app. The app can be found in the Apple or Android app stores by searching for P3 Tips. Watch Your Car Program: The Watch Your Car Program helps prevent vehicle theft. A small sticker will be placed on your rear window. This sticker alerts officers nationwide that your vehicle is not normally driven during the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. The vehicle may be stopped to verify ownership.
