21-0309 - Theft - 1300 block of West St.
On 1/27/21 officers responded to the 1300 block of West Street for a reported theft. The victim advised that he sent a check addressed to a local church and later found out that the check was cashed by someone not affiliated with the church. Total loss value was $600.00.
21-0314 - Theft - 200 block of Main St.
On 1/27/21 officers responded to the 200 block of Main Street for a reported theft. The victim who is an employee at that location advised that an unknown person stole her wallet from her purse. The purse was located behind the counter at the time of the theft. The victim's credit card was later fraudulently used at another business in Annapolis.
21-0322 - Armed Robbery - 1700 block of Forest Dr.
On 01/27/2021 officers responded to the 1000 block of Tyler Ave. for a reported armed robbery. The victims advised that they were in the parking lot of the Safeway located in the 1700 block of Forest Drive when they were approached by two unknown men. The victims said that they were forced into a vehicle at gunpoint and robbed of their phones and money. The two victims were not injured in this incident. Detectives are currently investigating this incident.
Scam Alert
Recently we have noticed an increase in regards to reported scams. We have responded to numerous reports where the victim/ reporting person advised that they were scammed.
In some cases the victim/ reporting person advised that they were contacted either via telephone or email and the scammer requested that they purchase gift cards and provide the number on the back of the card. If you should receive a call or email similar in nature please gather as much information from the individual as you can to include the phone number and or email address and report it to the Annapolis Police Department immediately. At no time should you purchase any type of gift card and provide the information on the card to an unknown person.
Please also be aware of tax scams as tax season approaches. If you're not certain that the person contacting you is legitimate, you should not provide them with personal information such as your SSN, name, DOB, banking information or address.
In any situation where you feel that you have been contacted by a scammer or have been scammed please to not hesitate to contact the Annapolis Police Department at 410-268-4141.
