Annapolis Police Department Daily Report

20-4035 - Theft (from vehicle) - 300 block of Hilltop Lane

On October 16th at approximately 8:30am officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Hilltop Lane for a report of a theft from a vehicle. Officers spoke with the victim who stated that an unknown person(s) entered his unlocked 1999 Honda Accord and removed his wallet. Total loss value to the victim was $125.00.


20-4040 - Theft (clothing) - 100 block of Main Street

On October 16th at approximately 3:11pm officers responded to the 100 block of Main St. for the report of a theft . Officers were advised that a subject took a sweatshirt from a clothing rack located on the sidewalk in front of the business. Officers were able to identify the subject and charges are currently pending.


20-4045 - Theft - Unit block of Market Space 

On October 16th at approximately 6:18pm officers responded to the unit block of Market Space for a report of a theft. The victim reported that he left his bicycle locked up on Market Space and when he returned, it was gone. The bicycle was valued at $450.00.


20-4047 - Burglary - Unit block of Alder Road

On October 16th at approximately 11:00pm officers responded to the unit block of Alder Road for a reported burglary. The victims advised that while they were out of town an unknown person kicked in the rear door to their residence. Several pieces of jewelry and watches were stolen from the residence. Total loss value to the victims was $2,530.00.


20-4048 - Strong Arm Robbery - 200 block of West Street

On October 17th at approximately 1:47am officers responded to an address in the 900 block of Primrose Road for a reported robbery that occurred on West Street. The victim advised that while walking in the 200 block of West Street he was forced into a vehicle, assaulted and robbed of $200.00. The victim was eventually able to exit the vehicle at which point he ran away and contacted police. The victim was transported to AAMC for an injury to his head.


20-4050 - Theft from vehicle - 200 block of Boxwood Road

On October 17th at approximately 9:23am officers responded to the 200 block of Boxwood Road for a reported theft. The victim reported that his four tires and rims were stolen from his 2005 Acura. Total loss value to the victim was $800.00. 


20-4067 - Theft from vehicle - 600 block of Bywater Road 

On October 17th at approximately 10:25am officers responded to the 600 block of Bywater Road for a report of a theft. The victim advised that an unknown person stole the catalytic converter from his 2002 Acura. Total loss value to the victim was  $500.00.


20-4074 - Theft - 500 block of South Cherry Grove Avenue

On October 17th at approximately 3:40pm officers responded to a business located in the 500 block of South Cherry Grove Ave. for a report of a theft. An employee of the business advised that an unknown male entered the business and stole four boxes of Pampers.


20-4075 - Theft - 300 block of Forbes Street 

On October 17th at approximately 4:02pm officers responded to the 300 block of Forbes Street for a report of a theft. The victim advised that an unknown person stole his red Lifetime Freestyle XL paddleboard. Total loss value to the victim was $300.00.


20-4064 - Homicide - 100 block of Clay Street On October 18th at approximately 12:11 am officers responded to the 100 block of Clay Street for several reports of shots fired. Upon arrival officers located an adult male in the rear of the residence suffering from injuries consistent with being shot. The victim was identified as 28 year old Shawn McGowan of Baltimore, he died from his injuries. Three additional victims suffering from gunshot wounds were located inside of a residence. Those victims have been identified and are being treated for their injuries at local hospitals. Two of the victims have been identified as 17 year old females from Annapolis and the other has been identified as 26 year old Tijee Bennett also of Annapolis.

Detectives are investigating this incident. This is an active and fluid investigation and we urge anyone with information about this incident to contact our detectives at 410-260-3439. You can also call Metro Crime Stoppers at 1-866-7LOCKUP and submit an anonymous tip.  If your tip leads to an arrest or indictment you may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000.  


Telephone Reporting and Police Services - COVID-19 
The Annapolis Police Department is implementing a policy of telephone reporting for relatively minor and non-violent crimes. When you call to report a crime in Annapolis your call will be screened to see if it falls into a category that is appropriate for telephone reporting. If your call is appropriate for telephone reporting an officer will call you and collect the relevant information and provide you with an event or incident number. Submitting Anonymous Tips to Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland


Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland is an organization separate from the Annapolis Police Department. When you phone in or submit your Annapolis crime tip online or through the P3 Tips smartphone app Metro Crime Stoppers receives your tip anonymously and only forwards your tip information to the Annapolis Police Department. No identifying information is ever forwarded to us. Metro Crime Stoppers uses a special coding system to protect your identity, they do not use Caller ID or record telephone conversations. If your tip leads to the arrest or indictment of a person for a felony you could qualify for up to a $2,000 cash reward from Metro Crime Stoppers. You can submit a tip by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587), visiting www.metrocrimestoppers.org, or through the P3 Tips smartphone app. The app can be found in the Apple or Android app stores by searching for P3 Tips. You can also call a tip into us directly at 410-280-CLUE (2583).

Watch Your Car Program:  The Watch Your Car Program helps prevent vehicle theft.  A small sticker will be placed on your rear window.  This sticker alerts officers nationwide that your vehicle is not normally driven during the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.  The vehicle may be stopped to verify ownership.  For more information about the program contact us at police@annapolis.gov.
