20-3209-Fraud-1000 block of Monroe Street

 On August 20th officers responded to the 1000 block of Monroe Street for a fraud report. Upon arrival the victim advised he received an email from an unknown person  advising him to call 805-454-1512 in reference to him owing $800.00 for a Norton Security System. The victim advised he "gave them access" to his computer at some point and they "took control" of his computer, making him unable to use it. The victim advised that the subject over the phone then said he was sent $8000.00 accidentally into his bank account, so now he owed them $7,000.00. Victim then advised he internationally wired $7,000.00 to the account provided to him. Total loss value to the victim was $7,000.00.  

 

20-3208-Theft-1900 block of Moreland Pkwy   

On August 20th officers responded to the 1900 block of Moreland Parkway  for a theft of auto parts. Owner of the vehicle said he received a call from this business to say that the hood to his truck which he had left in their possession for repair work was stolen. Manager of the business advised the vehicles are locked overnight and all keys are accounted for. Nothing else was taken from inside the truck. Total loss value to the victim was $1000.


20-3220 Strong Arm Robbery St John's College Campus

On August 20th officers responded to a report of a strong arm robbery that occurred on the campus of Saint John's College. Victim advised that he was hanging with subjects known to him on the St. John's College campus when he was assaulted by the said subjects. After being assaulted, the subjects took the victim's bicycle and a backpack from him and fled the area on foot in an unknown direction of travel. Victim suffered injuries to his head,mouth and hand and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment. Detectives are currently investigating this incident and anyone with information should contact them at 410-260-3439.


20-3217 Theft- 400 block of Sixth St 

On August 20th officers responded to the Royal Farms Store for a shoplifting that just occured. Store employee advised that the suspect stole several pieces of candy from the store and left in a black sedan. The vehicle and the suspect were later located in the unit block of Pleasant St. The suspect was positively identified and arrested. Suspect was in possession of one of the stolen items. Suspect was issued a criminal citation.The suspect also had an outstanding arrest warrant and criminal summons that were served on her. Total loss value to the business was $3.08.

20-3222 Destruction of Property Duke of Gloucester Street

On August 20th officers responded to Duke of Gloucester Street for a report of juvenile subjects throwing rocks at an AFD fire truck. Fire truck sustained damage to the windshield. Juveniles fled on foot in an unknown direction of travel. No reported injuries in this incident.


20-3214 Assault Unit block of Gilmer St 

On August 20th officers responded to the unit block of Gilmer Street for a reported assault. The victim advised that he got into a verbal argument with an unknown female subject while at Chambers Park. The female left and returned a short time later with three unknown male subjects. The victim stated that he was assaulted by these unknown male subjects in which they repeatedly punched him amongst his head,face and body with closed fists. The victim sustained injuries which consisted of a split upper lip, a small laceration on his forearm and several bruises on his chest and back. Victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.


20-3212- Suspicious Activity

Over the last two days several complainants have called Annapolis Police Department and reported that they have received calls from our main line (410-268-9000). The callers stated that on those occasions it was someone trying to scam them out of money. Most of the callers were not within the City of Annapolis. As a reminder to the citizens that we serve, Annapolis Police Department will never telephone citizens and demand money. If you receive a call similar to this you are urged to report it to our agency so that it can be documented.


Telephone Reporting and Police Services - COVID-19 
The Annapolis Police Department is implementing a policy of telephone reporting for relatively minor and non-violent crimes. When you call to report a crime in Annapolis your call will be screened to see if it falls into a category that is appropriate for telephone reporting. If your call is appropriate for telephone reporting an officer will call you and collect the relevant information and provide you with an event or incident number. Submitting Anonymous Tips to Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland


Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland is an organization separate from the Annapolis Police Department. When you phone in or submit your Annapolis crime tip online or through the P3 Tips smartphone app Metro Crime Stoppers receives your tip anonymously and only forwards your tip information to the Annapolis Police Department. No identifying information is ever forwarded to us. Metro Crime Stoppers uses a special coding system to protect your identity, they do not use Caller ID or record telephone conversations. If your tip leads to the arrest or indictment of a person for a felony you could qualify for up to a $2,000 cash reward from Metro Crime Stoppers. You can submit a tip by calling 1-866-7LOCKUP (1-866-756-2587), visiting www.metrocrimestoppers.org, or through the P3 Tips smartphone app. The app can be found in the Apple or Android app stores by searching for P3 Tips. You can also call a tip into us directly at 410-280-CLUE (2583).

Watch Your Car Program:  The Watch Your Car Program helps prevent vehicle theft.  A small sticker will be placed on your rear window.  This sticker alerts officers nationwide that your vehicle is not normally driven during the hours of 1 a.m. and 5 a.m.  The vehicle may be stopped to verify ownership.  For more information about the program contact us at police@annapolis.gov.
