Annapolis Police Announce Unsolved Homicide Investigator

The Annapolis Police Department is announcing the hiring of Stanley Brandford as a cold case investigator. Annapolis Police Chief Edward C. Jackson made investigations of unsolved homicides a priority since his appointment in July of 2019 and Mr. Brandford will review all open homicides.
 
Mr. Brandford is a twenty-eight year veteran of law enforcement. He retired as the Chief of Detectives at the rank of Colonel from the Baltimore Police Department. He previously served as the Commander of the Homicide Division, which is a position he held twice during his tenure at the Baltimore Police Department. He also served as District Commander of the Eastern District and spent 25 years in investigations. Mr. Brandford served 10 years in the United States Marine Corps.
 
Mr. Brandford will be contacting families of victims to improve their role in the process. The goal of reviewing these cases is not to traumatize families, but to provide them with more information, increase communication between the families and investigators and involve them as fully as they feel comfortable. Many of these cases are still active with many leads investigated by our detectives. Unfortunately, in some cases, not enough information was found for criminal charges to be brought against a suspect or suspects. This is a long and difficult process and results sometimes take years. Chief Jackson is committed to solving every unsolved homicide.
 
Part of the review of cases involves resurrecting public interest in these cases to develop more leads. We realize as time passes situations and relationships change and people with information about these murders may talk to friends or family members.
