On Thursday, December 29, 2016 at 5:51 p.m. Officers from the Annapolis Police Department responded to Forest Hills Dr. and Bricin St. in Annapolis for a report of a shooting.  Upon arrival, officers located a Green Taxi Cab.  The driver of the cab was discovered suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The 56 year old male victim was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center where he is listed in critical condition.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective John Murphy at 410-260-3439 or jhmurphy@annapolis.gov.

UPDATE

Officers quickly determined that the shooting occurred in the unit block of Bens Drive and responded to that location.  While canvassing the area they located a man who was wanted on a warrant for an unrelated crime.  While the man was being arrested Davonte Johnson, 18, of Annapolis attempted to push past officers to interfere with the arrest.  Johnson refused to obey orders to back away and was arrested.

The investigation into the shooting continued and Johnson was identified as shooter.  Johnson was charged with attempted first degree murder and 12 other criminal charges related to the shooting.  Johnson is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center without bond.

The victim is in critical but stable condition at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center.

"This police department and community will continue to be intolerant of this senseless violence," said Police Chief Mike Pristoop.  "Our officers made an immediate arrest with neighborhood cooperation, and will work with the State's Attorney's Office towards a successful prosecution."

"The quick response and arrest of the suspect shows our efforts to combat crime in Annapolis are working," Mayor Michael Pantelides said. "I am proud of the Annapolis Police Department for their immediate action."
