Two charities were selected to receive funds raised at the event: the Australian Red Cross and WIRES, an Australian wildlife charity. The event was held at Fado Irish Pub in Annapolis and Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley, a native of Perth, Australia, was enlisted to attend and present live and silent auctions. Mayor Buckley enlisted the help of “Roos2You,” a kangaroo and wallaby rescue located in Germantown Maryland to volunteer to bring a baby wallaby to the event.
A variety of businesses and organizations donated prizes for the silent auction. Bands donated their time to entertain, including Dublin 5, Mac & Blue, Long Time Coming and East is East. The public was notified and, at $5 a head, turned out en masse.
The funds raised for the event reached a total of $13,496.
Join acting Mayor Rhonda Pindell Charles (Mayor Buckley had to attend to a family emergency back in Perth and is out of the country), Neal Katcef and Keith McGrory for a check presentation in front of Fado Irish Pub in Annapolis at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 30.
