Mayor Buckley Announces Three Hours Free Parking
at Meters in Downtown, Rollout of Shop Annapolis Campaign
ANNAPOLIS, MD (November 25, 2019) – Mayor Gavin Buckley and Alderwoman Eleanor Tierney announced on Monday that the City of Annapolis will be offering three hours of free parking at downtown metered parking spaces beginning Friday, November 29 and running through New Years. They also announced an incentive program to offer a fourth hour of free parking using the promo code “ParkDTA” on the ParkMobile smartphone app.
“Good News!” Mayor Buckley said. “You don’t have to download the app to get free parking in downtown, but if you choose to download the app, you’ll get the fourth hour free. It is our way of incentivizing use of ParkMobile as we adopt Smart City initiatives.”
Alderwoman Tierney added that the City is eager to get people migrated to the technology. She said that many of the meters are in need of replacement. “Frankly, they’re a blight on our beautiful historic landscape.”
The Mayor added that there is more free parking in downtown Annapolis this year than any previous year. “With ‘Park, Shop and Dine’ and ‘Residents Park Free,’ as well as this program, people have no excuse not to spend their holiday shopping dollars with local retailers.
The City also announced a shop local program: Love Annapolis, Shop Annapolis, encouraging residents and visitors to the city to use the hashtag when shopping or dining in the City. The City offered the top ten reasons to shop local to:
