On Sunday at 2 a.m., ‘Fall Back’ Daylight Savings Time Ends
It’s a Great Time to Check Your Smoke Detector Batteries
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 30, 2019) - At 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 3, residents should turn back their clocks by one hour with the end of Daylight Savings Time. Please note that many electronic devices automatically adjust when Daylight Savings Time begins or ends.
The Annapolis Fire Department suggests that residents take this opportunity to change the batteries in all of their smoke detectors when they change the time on their clocks. If City residents cannot afford a smoke detector, Annapolis firefighters will provide and install one at no cost.
Chief Doug Remaley, of the Annapolis Fire Department said, “we provide this as a service to our residents. We’d rather come out to give you a smoke detector and leave you at your place smiling than see our firefighters going out for more tragic reasons.”
Daylight Savings Time got its start in 1784 when Benjamin Franklin proposed the idea as a way to conserve energy. By moving clocks forward in the summer, he posited that people could get an extra hour of daylight rather than waste energy lighting their homes.
In Annapolis, Sunrise will take place at 7:35 a.m. on Saturday and at 6:35 a.m. on Sunday. Sunset on Saturday will take place at 6:05 p.m. On Sunday, it will be at 5:03 p.m.
Daylight Savings Time returns next spring (on March 8, 2020).
