Mayor Buckley Accepts Superintendent’s Challenge to
“Turn Annapolis Orange” on October 23!

Annapolis, MD (October 17, 2019) – Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley has accepted the challenge from Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) Superintendent Dr. George Arlotto to “Turn Annapolis Orange” on October 23 in a powerful and colorful statement for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion.

For the second year, AACPS is participating in Unity Day, an initiative of the National Bullying Prevention Center. October is National Bullying Prevention Month, and Unity Day is designed to visibly show commitments to fostering acceptance and inclusion and eliminate hate and bullying.

This is the first year for the City of Annapolis’ participation.

As part of Unity Day, Mayor Buckley is asking City employees to wear orange and take the pledge to be kind, accepting and inclusive to their co-workers as well as residents and visitors to the City.

“I accept Dr. Arlotto’s challenge,” Mayor Buckley said. “And I challenge our elected officials in the General Assembly, Dels. Alice Cain and Shaneka Henson and Sen. Sarah Elfreth, to turn the legislature orange on Oct. 23.”
