Annapolis Sailor’s Triathlon Set for July 27
Mayor and County Executive join Navy Athletic Association for swim, bike and foot race through Historic District, County Roads on the north side of the Severn and through the Naval Academy
Annapolis, MD (July 22, 2019) – The second annual Sailor’s Triathlon is set to begin at 6:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 27. The event, which will be coordinated in partnership with the United States Naval Academy and the Naval Academy Athletic Association, begins at City Dock’s Susan Campbell Park. After a 500-meter swim off City Dock, cyclists will continue onto a 10.5-mile route through the Historic District, crossing into Anne Arundel County over the Naval Academy Bridge. From there, riders will circle back and end the ride at the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Next, runners will depart on a 4-mile route back through the Historic District and onto the Naval Academy (Gate 1) grounds, then return to Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium.
The event is for individuals or teams. The race will begin at 6:30 a.m. and should end by 9:25 a.m. Expect rolling road closures. The race is a United States of America Triathlon (USAT) officially sanctioned event.
“This is a great opportunity to see our beautiful City from a unique vantage point,” said Mayor Buckley. “Participants get the experience of swimming Spa Creek, biking through our historic streets, crossing the Naval Academy Bridge overlooking the Severn River, and finally running back through the streets of Annapolis and onto the Naval Academy campus. It is a unique opportunity and great coordination between City, County and the Academy.”
