Dr. Tim Chapin Coming to Maryland Hall July 16
for a Talk on Autonomous Vehicles in Urban Planning
Annapolis, MD (July 9, 2019) – The City of Annapolis, in partnership with Historic Annapolis and Maryland Hall, will be hosting the second speaker in the series, “Reimagining City Dock.” The event will take place on Tuesday, July 16 at 7 p.m. at Maryland Hall. The speaker will be Dr. Tim Chapin of Florida State University, who will speak on the topic of integrating autonomous vehicle in the built environment.
The event is free, but tickets (through MarylandHall.org) are suggested. Tickets, also free, will be available at the door on the day of the talk (as availability permits).
Dr. Chapin is the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Public Policy at Florida State University. He is also a professor of Urban and Regional Planning. He is a noted expert on land use and comprehensive planning, growth management and urban redevelopment.
Dr. Chapin’s research interests revolve around how demographic trends influence urban patterns and transportation systems.
As Annapolis begins the process of writing its every-ten-years Comprehensive Plan in 2020, this talk is a timely opportunity to think about the future of Annapolis in a way that incorporates the transit needs of cities today, tomorrow and ten years from now.
“The challenges Annapolis faces in terms of development and design are not unique to our community,” Mayor Gavin Buckley said. “I’m looking forward to learning from Dr. Chapin how other places have resolved contentious issues around transportation and urban planning.”
The free talk will begin at 7 p.m. The public is welcomed to attend.
This series is being co-sponsored by Severn Bank, Historic Annapolis, the Downtown Annapolis Partnership, the City of Annapolis and Historic Annapolis.
