Annapolis Mayor Michael Pantelides invites residents to participate in the city’s Trees of Distinction Program. The purpose of the program is to recognize and thank the citizens who maintain and care for the city’s most noteworthy trees. Many of these trees have stood witness to significant changes within the community and their presence often defines a neighborhood.
Beginning on Sunday, September 24th residents will be able to nominate distinctive trees located on their own property or on public property based on four categories:
- Size and/or age
- Unusual growth habit or form
- Historical significance
- Beauty or aesthetic value
The program will be open to nominations through April 4th, 2018. All participants will receive a Trees of Distinction Certificate signed by Mayor Pantelides with photos and information about the tree posted on the city’s webpage.
Awards in all four categories will be announced at the Annapolis Arbor Day celebration next April. Residents can submit their nominations to trees@annapolis.gov. Anyone interested in nominating a tree must download the form at bit.ly/2hj5pET.
