The Annapolis Fire Department’s First Responders received a call this morning from a concerned resident that saw five babies stuck in a storm drain and the mother was yelling for help as she nervously paced back and forth in front of the storm drain.
I should explain the concerned citizen was taking about baby ducks and it was the mother duck that was quacking widely as she panicked waiting for someone to rescue here ducklings.
That’s when Lt. Michael Lonergan, along with Firefighters Stephen Baer and Robert Amato, responding from the Forest Drive Fire Station, arrived at 507 South Cherry Grove Avenue to help get the mother duck and her babies back together again!

After rescuing all five ducklings and reuniting them with the mother duck, the three Annapolis First Responders took that extra step by following them to a close-by pond and… wait for it… stopped traffic to ensure they all made it across the road and into the pond.
Let’s hear it for the happy ending, just because they knew it was the right thing to do! Thank you Lt. Michael Lonergan, and Firefighters Stephen Baer and Robert Amato for a job well done!
