Annapolis Kunta Kinte Festival Canceled for Saturday Due to Rain - with Potential for Rescheduling
ANNAPOLIS, MD (September 21, 2023) – The Kunta Kinte Heritage Festival, which was set to return to City Dock on Saturday, September 23, 2023, has been canceled due to inclement weather that is expected to arrive in the Annapolis area late Friday and into Saturday. Festival organizers will convene in the coming days to find an alternate date and, if necessary, location.
The weather is the result of a tropical weather system (Tropical Cyclone #16) currently in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida. At this time, the system is not predicted to become a hurricane, but is expected to deliver tropical storm conditions to the mid-Atlantic region.
According to the National Weather Service, rain will move into the area late Friday/early Saturday morning. Sustained winds are expected at 17 to 24 MPH with gusts to 30 MPH. The chance of rain for Saturday is 90 percent. By Saturday night, winds are expected to increase (23 to 33 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH), decreasing back to 13 to 23 MPH after midnight. The high temperature will be near 69F on Saturday.
On Sunday, showers will remain in the early part of the day with occasional showers through the evening. High temperatures expected around 73.
