Annapolis Celebrates Arbor Day with Tree Planting
at Mills Parole Elementary School in Parole
Annapolis, MD (April 25, 2023) – At 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 27, Mayor Gavin Buckley, Deputy City Manager for Resilience and Sustainability Jacqueline Guild and City Arborist Brian Adams will join schoolchildren, teachers, administrators, and staff at Mills Parole Elementary School to celebrate Arbor Day/Earth Day with a tree planting ceremony.
“When we do tree planting events at schools, I look forward to getting the children involved because they are always eager and excited to ‘dig’ in,” said Mayor Gavin Buckley. “I am forever impressed by these students, who are consistent in their understanding of the importance of preserving and enhancing our natural world.”
At that time, Mayor Buckley will sign a proclamation recognizing April 27 as Arbor Day in the City of Annapolis. Arbor Day (typically celebrated on the last Friday in April) is a day set aside to focus on the importance of planting trees. Arbor Day is recognized and celebrated in all 50 states. In Annapolis, the City has set a goal to increase the City’s urban tree canopy by 50 percent by 2036.
“Trees provide a wealth of benefits and play a critical role in our City’s ‘green’ infrastructure,” said City arborist Brian Adams. “We celebrate Arbor Day with children to impress upon them the importance of trees and the need to care for our environment.
