Spring Events Prompt Road Closures in Downtown Annapolis
ANNAPOLIS, MD (April 11, 2023) – Events and construction projects in downtown Annapolis will cause temporary road closures as follows:
CALVERT STREET between West and Clay Streets between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 for an Anne Arundel County-sponsored community event, “Tribute to the Old 4th Ward.”
BLADEN STREET and COLLEGE AVENUE starting on April 17, 2023 to approximately mid-December 2023. Construction by the Maryland Stadium Authority on the Department of Legislative Services (DLS) building for the Maryland General Assembly will require the closure of Bladen Street between Calvert Street and College Avenue and College Avenue between Church Circle and North Street. Outbound downtown traffic will be diverted around Church Circle to West Street. Bus stops have been coordinated with the traffic plan. Signs on the first block of West Street outbound will be changed from “No Parking” to “No Stopping” for the duration of the construction project. Please follow marked detours.
WEST STREET between Calvert/Cathedral Street and Church Circle between 4 p.m. and midnight on Saturday, April 22 for “Kick Gas” Electric Vehicle Showcase and Dinner Under the Stars.
Other springtime events that do not require road closures, but may bring increased traffic to Annapolis include:
On Saturday, April 15, the annual croquet match between St. John’s College and the United States Naval Academy will be held (10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.). This is a sold-out (ticketed-only) event.
On Saturday, April 22, at various locations around the City, be mindful of residents working to beautify public spaces including traffic islands and pocket parks as part of the GreenScape volunteer event. Vehicles will not be rerouted for Greenscape, but drivers are asked to use caution while volunteers are working in these public areas.
In May, the popular First Sundays Arts event will begin on Sunday, May 7, with the first block of West Street (between Calvert Street and Church Circle) closing the first Sunday of each month through October.
Dinner Under the Stars, which also closes the first block of West Street from 4 p.m. to midnight on Wednesdays and Saturdays will begin for the season on May 20.
