City to Host “Black Business Matters”
Pop-Up Vendor Market on November 7
ANNAPOLIS, MD (October 28, 2020) - The City of Annapolis will host a “Black Business Matters” Pop- Up Vendor Market on Calvert Street on November 7, 2020 from 2 to 6 p.m. The street will be closed between Gotts Garage and Northwest Street. The Office of Mayor Gavin Buckley is partnering with local non-profit Grandmere’s Touch to support local African American small businesses and entrepreneurs.
“I encourage the public to come out and see the great things businesses have in store,” said Mayor Buckley. “It’s important in this economy to help local small businesses. They are the economic engine that will drive recovery in this City.”
Because of Covid-19, participants and patrons will be required to wear face coverings and practice physical distancing.
To sign up for vendor space or to find out more, contact Adetola Ajayi at 410-972-6257 or aoajayi@annapolis.gov. Or Erin Holland at 410-627-0157 grandmerestouchinc@yahoo.com.
Minority owned businesses have been hit hard by the pandemic because of historically weaker relationship to banks and financial institutions, making it less likely that when the pandemic first hit they would have ready access to CARES funding. The vendor market is an excellent opportunity for the City of Annapolis to play a role in helping promote black-owned businesses and encourage the public to show their support too.
