SHARROW

SHARROW is short-form for "shared lane bicycle marking." This pavement marking includes a bicycle symbol and two white chevrons and is used to remind motorists that bicyclists are permitted to use the full lane. There are no striped bicycle lanes on streets marked with SHARROWs.

Motorists

  • Expect to see bicyclists on the street.
  • Remember to give bicyclists at least 3 feet of space when passing.
  • Follow the rules of the road as if there were no SHARROW.

Bicyclists

  • Use the SHARROW to guide where you ride within the right hand side of the lane and with the direction of traffic.
  • Remember not to ride too close to parked cars.
  • Follow the rules of the road as if there were no SHARROW.
