Working Groups

Another component of the Comprehensive Plan update is a series of working groups that will focus in refined detail on pressing themes. These themes - Resiliency, Affordable Housing, and Healthy Communities - fit seamlessly into the content and framework of the plan. 

The groups will be made up of experts in related fields, resident stakeholders, and representatives from City staff working on relevant issues. Over the course of each working group, the participants will dive deep in brainstorming and discussing the array of factors influencing the respective topic. Eventually this collaborative process will inform a series of strategies to incorporate into the Comprehensive Plan. These strategies will be accompanied by performance measures and targets to ensure we achieve them as intended.

Each working group will run in succession, not in conjunction with one another, with the first being the Resilience working group.

  • Stakeholders came to an agreement over how to define resilience in order to maintain focus and also be inclusive of all that is an indicator of resilience or vulnerability
  • Explored ideas for what a framework for resilience planning could look like with a robust set of assets, priority actions, targets, and baselines
  • Discussion of priority areas materialized into distinctive categories for assets of infrastructural, social and environmental
June 24, 2019
  • Visited preliminary asset table that was populated by working group participants in the interim to discuss and confirm assets and their pertinent stressors
  • Modified asset table by revising according to those that were missing and those that were not as imnportant
  • Partook in a discussion of subsequent steps toward a resilience framework such as prioritizing assets and hazards, bringing the public into the process, and a timeline for deriving actions
August 6, 2019
  • Revisited master asset table to ensure the entire working group is in agreement over the makeup of each asset, their importance, and the climate and non-climate stressors that affect them
  • Discussed process of how to proceed with identifying community actions and prioritization
  • Addressed plan for community engagement and how to integrate the resilience framework into the Comprehensive Plan
