APD Media Release 09/11/13 - UPDATE
The Annapolis Police Department is identifying the officer involved in yesterday’s police involved shooting as Officer First Class Alfred Thomas. Officer Thomas, 42, is a 14 year veteran with the Annapolis Police Department. Officer Thomas is assigned to the Patrol Division Midnight Shift and a member of the SWAT team.
Domestic Stabbing Leads to Police Involved Shooting
On September 10 at 12:21 a.m. Officers from the Annapolis Police Department responded to the 1900 block of Copeland St for a report of a man assaulting a woman. Officers arrived and found a woman with multiple stab wounds in the parking lot. Officers confronted the suspect who was shot and killed. The female victim was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The male suspect was also transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
The preliminary investigation revealed that a citizen in the area heard an altercation in the 1900 block of Copeland St. The citizen saw William Brown, 31, on top of Ronnesha Simms, 29, in the parking lot. The citizen went to help Ms. Simms and saw that Brown was stabbing her with a knife. Brown dropped the knife and the citizen was able to kick it out of reach. Brown went into a residence and came back out with another knife as officers were arriving in the area. Brown armed with the knife walked towards Ms. Simms and the officer at which time the officer discharged his firearm. After being shot Brown was able to stab the victim one more time. The officer is a 14 year veteran with the Annapolis Police Department.
