APD Media Release 10/27/12
Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen signed a Declaration of State of Emergency for Annapolis this afternoon as Hurricane Sandy continues to threaten the East Coast.
The signed declaration:
• Implements the City’s Emergency Operation Plan
• Allows the mayor to declare a curfew
• Authorizes use of City owned property
• Directs the Harbormaster to limit access to City waters
Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency for all Maryland counties this morning. The declaration gives the state flexibility to activate the Maryland National Guard and provide assistance to local emergency managers.
By signing this declaration, the mayor wants to remind residents to not panic, but be prepared. To that end, he is encouraging all Annapolis residents and business owners to sign up for the CodeRED alerts that are available by phone and text.
To sign up, go to www.annapolis.gov/eprm and click on CodeRED on the left side of page. Then click on submit your contact information. That’s it. It’s that easy.
All updates from the Annapolis Office of Emergency Preparedness & Risk Management will be sent to your home phone or can be sent as a text to your cell phone.
