Annapolis Police to Escort the Special Olympics Maryland Torch
As part of the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run Annapolis police officers will escort the Special Olympics Maryland Torch on Wednesday, June 6 at 2pm.
The torch will be delivered by the Maryland Transportation Authority Police Department via boat to Susan Campbell Park at the City Dock. Volunteer officers and Special Olympics athletes will run with the flame from the dock to the World War II Memorial on MD 450 across the Naval Academy bridge, covering a total of 3 ½ miles.
Come out and encourage the runners along the route as they help raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. The torch will travel from the City Dock up Main St, onto Church Cir to West St, making a right on Calvert St then a left onto Rowe Blvd. The runners will turn right onto Taylor Av, left onto Ridgley Av, right on Melvin Av, right on Annapolis St, and then straight to the WWII Memorial. Traffic will be slowed as the runners move through the route together.
The torch will eventually be delivered to Towson University in Towson, Maryland for the Opening Ceremony of the Special Olympics Maryland Summer Games on Friday, June 8th.
