Vendor Applications for Market House Available
Annapolis, Md. (05-18-12) – Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announces that food and retail vendors are invited to apply for leases at the historic Market House. The City is seeking qualified regional and local businesses that provide quality offerings at a reasonable cost. The City’s goal is to reopen the historic downtown market in the autumn of 2012.
“I am thrilled that we are on track to begin a new chapter for the Market House,” Mayor Cohen said. “The Market House is authentically Annapolis, and it is a core responsibility of City government. Reopening it is critical to downtown’s economy and to our identity as a community.
“This is not about a quick fix – this is about doing it right. When it reopens this Fall, it will have a quality mix of local and regional vendors selling good food with a Chesapeake connection. And the interior layout will be fixed so that we will once again be able stand at the window counter and enjoy the views of the harbor while we eat, like it used to be – only better.”
Preliminary applications will be available Monday, May 21. Vendors whose preliminary applications are approved will be invited to submit a more detailed final application. The review of applications will begin on Monday, June 11, with interviews beginning as early as Monday, June 18.

Sharoff’s firm, FranPoint Partners, has been retained by the City to coordinate the vendor selection process.
Eight vendor stalls and four small kiosk spaces are available for leases. Adjacent vendor spaces can be combined to create larger spaces. The very attractive rent structure will be based on a percent of gross revenues above a floor amount established for each vendor stall and kiosk space.
On February 27, City Council authorized funding to reconfigure the interior and expand the restrooms. For the past ten weeks, the Department of Public Works has been working with a design engineer to develop the design plans for the project. Now that the design is complete and the construction project is out for bids, the city is able to move forward with soliciting vendors, staying on schedule for an anticipated autumn opening.
