Acting Recreation and Parks Director Named

Annapolis, MD (1-6-12) Annapolis Mayor Joshua J. Cohen announced that effective Monday, January 9, 2012, former Recreation and Parks Director Richard Callahan will be the acting director until the City recruits a new full-time director.

LeeAnn Plumer announced she will step down today to allow more time with family.

LeeAnn was hired as the director by former mayor Dean L. Johnson and has served in that position for the past 12 years. She spent several of those years ensuring the success of the 80,000 square-foot "Pip" Moyer Recreation Center (PMRC) at Truxtun Park, which opened its doors in December of 2009.

“Dick is the perfect person to get back in the saddle again and keep things running,” Mayor Cohen said. “I extend my sincere thanks to Dick for his willingness to come back and serve his city.”

“Mr. Callahan is not interested in returning permanently to his prior post, so this gives the City a great opportunity to perform an unfettered search while maintaining the high level of service our community has come to expect,” City Manager Mike Mallinoff said.

A national search for Ms. Plumer’s replacement is currently underway with a closing date of January 30, 2012.  The City hopes to name the new Director by March 2012.
