Mayor: Stay Away from Flooded Areas Downtown
September 30, 2010
Waste-water backup and open manholes pose safety concerns; barricades placed
Annapolis, Md. (09-30-10) – Mayor Joshua J. Cohen advises residents and visitors to stay away from flooded areas along Dock Street because of a waste-water backup and at Compromise Street because of manhole covers that have popped off.
Department of Public Works officials identified the waste-water backup this afternoon at a business at Dock Street and are attempting to neutralize the issue. The force of the water flow this morning pushed off the manhole covers.
Several barricades have been places, and police officers have been deployed to the area. Mayor Cohen urges people to stay behind the barriers.
About 7 inches of rain has fallen in Annapolis, and the forecasters estimate that anywhere from 2 to 4 more inches before the storm blows out tomorrow. The combination of the rainfall and strong southerly winds has led to these flooding conditions.
