Vehicle Thefts
Since the first of the year four vehicles have been stolen in Annapolis.  Two of these vehicles were left running, unlocked and unattended with the key in the ignition, the other two vehicles had keys accessible that were used to steal the vehicles.  The two thefts of vehicles left running unattended occurred in the morning hours while the vehicles were being warmed.  The most recent of these thefts occurred yesterday morning.  Maryland Vehicle Law requires that a person in charge of a motor vehicle may not leave it unattended until the engine is stopped, the ignition locked, the key removed, and the brake effectively set.  Officers will be out ticketing vehicles left running, unlocked and unattended with the key in the ignition all over the city.
