APD Daily Report 03/31/14

In the last 72 hours Annapolis Police officers responded to 272 calls for service and arrested 35 people.

Theft – 201400001502 – Unit block of Shipwright St – 02/10 at 12pm to 03/21 at 4pm:  Three kayaks, two yellow and one blue, were stolen from a marina.  The total value of the kayaks is $1,350.

Robbery – 201400001521 – 200 block of West St – 03/29 at 3am:  Gregory Powell, 30, of Annapolis took a bag of potato chips from the Gulf gas station without paying for them.  The adult male attendant, who was inside a locked booth, asked Powell to pay for the chips several times.  Powell got angry and started banging on the attendant booth, telling the attendant to come out.  Powell took the attendant’s bicycle and began leaving with it.  The attendant came out of the booth to attempt to retrieve the bicycle and was punched by Powell multiple times.  The attendant was able to get the bicycle and returned with it to the attendant’s booth.  Before he could get inside Powell ran up behind him, tackling him into the booth, and started kicking and punching him.  Officers arrived on scene and arrested Powell.  Powell was charged with robbery, second degree assault, theft less than $100, and reckless endangerment.  He is being held at the Jennifer Road Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

Burglary – 201400001532 – Unit block of College Av – 03/29 from 10am to 5:20pm:  Money, an HP laptop computer, a red cloth travel bag printed with clocks and wheels, Ray Ban sunglasses, a Nikon camera, a Michael Kors watch, a jade necklace, and an antique black and white ring were stolen from a residence.  Entry may have been gained using a spare key that was kept outside the home.

Burglary – 201400001544 – 200 block of Garden Gate La – 03/30 at 10:20am:  An observant citizen called police when he saw a man go into a neighbor’s home.  Officers arrived on scene and discovered that the rear door had been forced open.  As officers were entering the rear of the home, the suspect, a 16 year old boy from Annapolis, came out the front door where another officer was waiting.  The 16 year old boy was arrested and charged with burglary and assault, he was transported to Cheltenham Youth Facility.

Theft from Vehicle – 201400001546 – 1900 block of Westbridge Dr – 03/29 at 6pm to 03/30 at 1pm:  An HP laptop computer and a Garmin GPS unit were stolen from an apparently unlocked vehicle.

Neighborhood Watch Meeting
The next Neighborhood Watch meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 6:30pm to 8pm at Annapolis Police Headquarters, 199 Taylor Avenue.  This meeting will include an overview of the Safe Streets program and a discussion of heroin in Annapolis.  As usual, we will also go over current crime trends.  Food will be served so please RSVP to Sgt.
