City supports MainStreets Annapolis Partnership
The Main Street program is a partnership between the City of Annapolis and the MainStreets Annapolis Program (MAP). The City has supported MAP in the development of a holiday pocket park on Main Street, providing benches, trash cans and trash pick-up and expedited permit review.
The park will be open through January 1 and will host performers during Midnight Madness on December 8 and December 15. For a complete listing of holiday events and to learn more about MAP, stop by the park and pick-up an event flyer. MAP welcomes any local business representatives interested in joining one of our very active committees to help with planning for upcoming projects including: a local business survey, promoting certified sustainable restaurants during Annapolis Restaurant Week, a rain barrel sale and contest in West Annapolis & Eastport, a Sustainable Design and Economic Incentives workshop for MainStreets businesses, a storefront façade improvement program, and development of a map and directory of MainStreets businesses. For more information or to volunteer, contact Lisa Craig at mainstreet@annapolis.gov

Winter Fires Are Preventable
Everyone should find out what they need to know to prevent a tragedy and have a safe winter season. As we move closer to winter and holidays, home fire deaths begin to increase. Because home fires are more prevalent in winter than in any other season, the Annapolis Fire Department wants to put a freeze on winter fires by raising public awareness. Winter fires are an unwelcomed reminder of what the Department experiences every year: temperatures drop and fires increase. Make sure every level of your home has a WORKING SMOKE DETECTOR, and be sure to check and clean it on a monthly basis.
Aerial Flare Demonstration
On 12/10/2011 at 12pm a local sailing club will be conducting an aerial flare demonstration at Sandy Point State Park. The demonstration is expected to last 1.5 hours. During the demonstration citizens in the area can expect to hear loud noises and see the flares in the sky.
Santa will be available at the Market House for photographs every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6:00 p.m. until December 24. If you are not looking your best for a photo with the famous Father Christmas, get your pet prettied up for a picture with Santa on Saturday, December 17 from 1 – 3 p.m. in front of the Market House.
