Richard E. Israel has lived in Ward One for 30 years. In 1975 he came to Annapolis to join the staff of the Department of Legislative Reference, and then served 25 years as an Assistant Attorney General. Retired in 2003, Dick has not until now been involved in politics, but has been active in civic affairs for decades, including membership on the Historic District Commission and Election Board. He was a founding member of the Murray Hill Resident’s Association, and served as board member, vice president and president. He is a member of the Board of the Friends of St John’s College.

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, Dick is a graduate of the University of the South (BA), Washington and Lee University (LLB), and Oxford University (MA). A member of St Anne’s Episcopal Church, Dick served on the church vestry and as registrar. He lives in his home of 24 years at 61 Shaw Street.
